North Alabama Shoals Hospital Celebrates First Nurse Residency Graduate

November 19, 2025

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala., – North Alabama Shoals Hospital is pleased to announce its first nurse graduate from the Shelby Phillips, RNTruMont Nurse Residency Program, a structured initiative designed to support newly licensed nurses as they transition into clinical practice. Shelby Phillips, RN, completed the year-long comprehensive program, which focuses on clinical competence, cultural transition, and leadership development.

“We are so proud of Shelby and all of her hard work to complete her nurse residency with our TruMont Program,” said North Alabama Shoals Hospital Nurse Educator and onsite coordinator Leiah Kimbrough. “This is a year-long residency that we offer all of our new RNs here at Shoals Hospital.”

Shoals Hospital Chief Nursing Officer, Beth Loften added, “The Nurse Residency Program reflects our dedication to supporting nurses at every stage of their career,” she said. “By investing in structured training and personalized mentorship, we equip our new graduate nurses with the confidence and competence needed to deliver safe, high-quality care for our patients.”

This milestone reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to developing confident, capable nurses who are equipped to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients throughout the community. The TruMont RN Resident Program is based on recommendations and evidence gathered over 10 years by The National Academy of Medicine, the Joint Commission, National Council of State Boards of Nursing and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Phillips, an RN in Med Surg for just over a year, was the recipient of the Shoals Hospital Daisy Award in March. She has been consistently recognized by coworkers, patients and staff for going above and beyond in providing exceptional care.

“I am incredibly proud and honored to graduate from the TruMont Nurse Residency Program,” said Phillips. “This milestone means so much to me and I couldn’t have gotten here without the guidance and support of my coworkers. It’s a privilege to serve as a nurse at North Alabama Shoals Hospital and I look forward to continuing to grow, learn and make a difference in the lives of our patients.”
