Graduate Medical Education
North Alabama Shoals Hospitalis dedicated to training future leaders in medicine by providing organized and academically rigorous programs of education that foster physicians’ professional development as skilled, ethical, compassionate, and sensitive clinicians who are capable of meeting the challenges of a changing healthcare environment while assuring the highest possible quality patient care.
We take great pride in training physicians for our area and emphasize personal, clinical, and professional development under the careful guidance and supervision of faculty that are committed to teaching residents and students.
Our program monitors the provision of safe and humane care of patients as our students, and resident physicians progress in responsibility as appropriate for their experience and competency.
The cooperative efforts and full support of the governing board, medical staff, hospital staff, and community affirm our commitment to Graduate Medical Education. This dedication has resulted in an increase in quality primary care for the Shoals Area and the surrounding communities.
Our graduate medical education programs promote the collaboration and development of a network that includes other local, regional and national institutions and affiliated health centers. All of our programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Mission statement:
Our residency program aims to train clinically excellent, academically informed, and culturally competent next-generation psychiatrists to serve the State of Alabama and the Tennessee river valley. Our program emphasizes treatment in a community psychiatry setting and serving patients with mental illness. Through empathic treatment of mental health issues in our community, we aim to improve our patient population's overall health, wellness, and social support. Our training is based on an innovative curriculum, dedicated mentorship programs, establishing partnerships, and collaborating with affiliate institutions to utilize the resources to enhance existing infrastructure to support personalized educational experiences to facilitate the career goals of residents. Our program ensures that residents rotate through inpatient and ambulatory settings in psychiatry and specialty services to face the challenges and prepare them for their careers as independent physicians, healthcare leaders, teachers, and mentors to future generations of physicians and the healthcare workforce. To achieve work-life balance and prevent them from burnout and provide wellness and joy to perform optimally.
